A sensory room for babies, toddlers and young children
We built Wonder for children who do best somewhere gentle and quiet. It's particularly well suited to autistic and neurodivergent children who may find traditional play spaces overwhelming, and it's a peaceful alternative to busy activity venues for every family.

The whole room, just for you. Ideal if your child prefers a quieter space, needs more room, or does best without other guests.

Private Sensory Parties
Celebrate a first birthday or a small milestone with exclusive use of the room, all the toys and equipment, and sensory music. Contact us to discuss group size, availability and any additional needs. Adults and young adults are welcome through private hire.

What happens when you visit
First visits are easier when nothing is a surprise. Here is how a session runs from the car park to the door.

Park in The Yard
Limited free parking on site. If it is full, there is street parking nearby. Look for the roadside signs for Wonder Sensory and Wonder Café.

Arrive at your session time
Please do not arrive early: there is no indoor waiting area. Leave promptly at the end so we can reset the room for the next group.

Settle in
Lights are already low and the music is gentle. Take as long as your child needs at the door before going in.

Explore at your own pace
Explore the lights, the ball pit and the soft play. A member of staff is on hand throughout.
What to bring
Spare clothes, a bottle or beaker, and any comforter your child relies on. Socks are a good idea for the soft play.
Additional needs
Tell us anything that would help before you come. A private session is often the gentlest way in for a first visit.

What is Wonder Sensory?
Wonder is a family-run sensory room at The Yard in Burnopfield, County Durham. Children can explore fibre-optic lights, bubble tubes, soft play and tactile toys in small-group or private sessions.
We have pre-walking baby slots for parents who'd like their little ones to be only with other tiny babies, and open slots for mixed ages.
How do I book?
Pick a slot on the timetable or use the Book a session button, which takes you to our secure online booking page. You can also get in touch, or message us on Instagram and Facebook.
Can I just turn up?
We recommend pre-booking. Walk-ins are subject to availability, so book ahead to secure a place.

How many adults can come with each child?
Each child’s ticket includes up to two adults. Every child using the room needs a ticket, including newborns and older children. Any additional adults need an extra-adult add-on.
Where can I park?
The Yard offers limited free parking. If the car park is full, street parking should be available in the surrounding area.
How do I know my child is safe?
We have a safe venue that will always have a member of staff on hand. They take the safety of your children with maximum importance and will be ensuring their safety throughout your visit.
What if we need to cancel?
Bookings are non-refundable and non-transferable, including illness and last-minute changes. Please read the visit information before booking.
